Fungi

Although not an animal, we think fungi are vitally important in preserving our ecosystems, hence their presence on this list. It is these organisms which allow certain types of plants to absorb nutrients and water from the soil. They are also decomposing organisms, which means they promote nutrient recycling in the soil and therefore its health and vitality.
