Following recent studies, we have discovered that fish are more important in maintaining the marine ecosystem than we previously thought. Through their excrement, yes you read it right, their excrement can significantly reduce the acidity of the oceans helping to maintain a balanced pH, essential for the existence of life in the sea. Due to overfishing, fish levels in the ocean are decreasing and are not able to keep up with human demand, which can become a major threat to all life on Earth.
