The Pianist is a 2002 film directed by Roman Polanski with Adrien Brody in the starring role. It is an adaptation of the memoires of the Polish jewish musician Wladyslaw Szpilman. The story shows us how he managed to survive the holocaust and the occupation of Varsovia by Nazi Germany in 1939. In 2001, it was awarded the Palm d´or at Cannes. It also received three Oscars: Best Director, Best Actor and Best Adapted Screenplay. It also received seven French César Awards and two BAFTA´s.
