The Silence of the Lambs is a 1991 American film belonging to the thriller and horror genre. It was directed by Jonathan Demme and stars Jodie Foster, Anthony Hopkins, and Scott Glenn in the main roles. The film is based on the book with the same name by Thomas Harris, where the story of Hannibal Lecter is told, a psychiatrist who is also a cannibal murderer. It was premiered on 14th February 1991 and made 272.7 million dollars in the box office, whilst only having an initial budget of 19 million. This made it one of the most successful films of the year.
