Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back (Episode V) is a space opera film directed by Irvin Kershner and premiered in the United States 21st May 1980. The script, based on the story by George Lucas, was written by Lawrence Kasdan and Leigh Brackett. The film’s story is set three years after the destruction of the Death Star, which took place at the end of the previous episode, A New Hope. After a difficult production, the film was shown for the first time on 21st May 1980 and it was a critics success, often being rated as the best film of the saga.
