The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers is a film based on the second volume of the book The Lord of the Rings, by the British writer J. R. R. Tolkien. It’s the sequel of The Fellowship of the Ring and the prequel to the last in the trilogy, the Return of the King. It was directed by Peter Jackson, who also directed the other two films. Peter Jackson wrote it together with Philippa Boyens and his wife Fran Walsh. The actors also brought their own ideas to the film’s production, causing the script to undergo several modifications. This caused protests among fans after the information was leaked online. The Two Towers was premiered on 18th December 2002 and received good feedback from critics, becoming the highest earning film in the box office in 2003, grossing 924.7 million dollars. On its first day it had already grossed 42 million dollars, double that of The Fellowship of the Ring.
