8. A Caring Hand

This photo commended in the photojournalism category shows a wounded flying fox cub. The small animal fell to the ground and was taken to the Black Rock animal shelter where it was looked after and helped to recover. Flying foxes carry their offspring during flight for the first three weeks of their life. Once three or so months have passed, they are capable of flying themselves. The photographer Douglas Gimesey, who took this photo, is an Australian journalist who focuses on wildlife conservation.
