Primates Other Than Humans
Share
Not only humans play a key role in maintaining our planet, our home. Other primates, such as monkeys, gorillas or chimpanzees also play their part when it comes to this issue. With more than 300 species spread around the globe, these animals are responsible for maintaining the tropical and subtropical forests. In addition to feeding on tree leaves and fruit, by shaking tree branches they cause seeds to fall and thus promote the continuity of the forest by helping to propagate future generations. The maintenance of these ecosystems is essential as they produce a large part of the Earth’s oxygen and also influence global rainfall patterns because, with fewer trees, there will be less rainfall and consequently, less drinking water.
