The “Island of the Dolls” sounds simultaneously appealing and creepy. It was intended to be the former, having supposedly been created in memory of a girl who drowned in Xochimilco Lake. Creepy. But these dolls haven’t fared too well following years of exposure to the elements, and the result is even creepier. The rest of the island is somewhat of a paradise though, so you can still experience the beautiful alongside the macabre.
