4. The Park of Monsters, Italy

Stroll in the park, anyone? Sure, but don’t go to the “Parco dei Monstri” expecting a relaxing ambience. In 1552, artist Pirro Ligorio was commissioned by a prince in turmoil to create an outdoor space full of monstruous horrors. Prince Pier Francesco Orsini had just returned from a decade of fighting, only for his wife to die upon his arrival. His expression of grief remains for all to see today in this park of little horrors (but delights, really).
