10. Beautiful Bloodsucker

The last photo in our collection was taken by Gil Wizen for the category Animal Behaviour. It shows a Sabethes mosquito, recognised for its famous blue colour, that can be found in Central and Southern America. The photographer took this photo when the mosquito chose him as its host. Although it was painful, Wizen stayed still for long enough to take this photo showing the parasite in action. As they are only 4 millimetres long, we don´t think he expected it to hurt so much. At least the photo came out well!
