Bolivia

Bolivia is a landlocked country in western-central South America. It declared its independence in 1809 after six years of war and having been under the rule of the Spanish Empire. The republic was then established by Simón Bolívar on 6 August, 1825. As one of the highest countries on Earth, Bolivia is home to some of the world’s most unique landscapes. These include the Salar de Uyuni – the world’s largest salt flat – and one of the most famous roads in the world, the Camino de la Muerte (Death Road). The country has two two distinct geographical regions: the Altiplano in the west, and the plains to the east. The northern area belongs to the Amazon basin, and the southern area to the Rio de la Plata basin, which forms part of the Bolivian Chaco. The huge variety of cultures in Bolivia has resulted in great diversity in the arts, gastronomy, literature and music.
