9 – Headquarters In ‘Inside Out’ Accurately Represents How The Brain Processes Memory And Emotions

In ‘Inside Out’, we follow the history of an 11-year-old named Riley, for most of the film from her core, a muscle called the brain. Five anthropomorphic primary emotions inside Riley’s mind are the main characters: Joy, Anger, Fear, Sadness, and Disgust. They work in Headquarters, which represents Riley’s consciousness, including her memories. In the movie, memories are represented by spheres that contain certain events. Each globe, with is own color, represents the emotion asscociated with an event, and the emotion can change when Riley recalls the event. According to cognitive psychologist Jennifer Talarico, a professor at Lafayette College, the film in many ways accurately represents how emotions and memories work in the brain.
