4 – The Snow And Ice In ‘Frozen’ Move And Behave With Mathematical Accuracy

In ‘Frozen’, Elsa of Arendelle, a regular user of magic, accidentally turns her homeland into a state of perpetual winter and disappears. Her sister Anna, with the help of some friends, set off to rescue her. Because the film takes place in such a specific environment, the animators had to create realistic weathering and environmental effects. Disney teamed up with two post-doctoral students to create a software algorithm that simulated real snow and how it behaves. The result was some of the most realistic weather effects we ever seen in an animated film.
