10 – The Zero-Point Energy Beam In ‘The Incredibles’ Is Based On A Physics Concept: The Zero-Point Field

In ‘The Incredibles’, Syndrome, arch-villian/ex-fan of the Incredible family, wields an energy beam device that can hold people in a stasis field. It’s called a ”zero-point energy beam” and although that technology doesn’t exist, it’s based on a complex concept from quantum physics. Zero-point energy refers to a theoretical field of energy, also called “vacuum energy,” defined most simply as “energy remaining in a substance at the absolute zero of temperature.” No one has managed to harness this potentially powerful energy to use it the way Syndrome does.
