9 – Timor Leste

Timor Leste is located east of Indonesia. It received its independence in 2002, making it one of the newest countries in the world. The capital is Dili and the official language is Portuguese. The economy is primary based on agriculture. Currently, the country is in conflict with Australia due to offshore production of petrol. Timor Leste’s landscapes and friendly people remain largely undiscovered; the country is ready and waiting to receive visitors. It receives around 66,000 visitors annually. Such a low figure can be explained by the extortionate price of flights, which can cost up to $1,000 in high season.
