2 – In ‘Hercules,’ Only Six Planets Are Shown When The Fates Sing About Them, Because The Ancient Greeks Only Knew Of Five Planets (Plus Earth)

In Hercules (1997), Hades manages to take over Mount Olympus by taking advantage of a temporary vortex in the ocean that uncovers the prison of the Titans, the previous rulers of the universe. He then unleashes the Titans and throws the Olympians in jail. The vortex is created by the alignment of all the known planets in the universe, and the film shows six planets coming into alignment, not the eight recognized today. The number is accurate because the ancient Greeks of the fifth century BCE observed only five planets in the solar system: Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn (Earth is the sixth).
